Microsoft case study: Canon NZ

Published November 2009

Faced with disparate and decentralised systems in 10 locations, expiring licenses and a team of people who were frustrated by delays in providing IT support, Canon New Zealand needed to upgrade its technology.

Renowned for developing original and innovative technology, the local team assessed its options and selected the Microsoft Windows Server System as its new platform. The Terminal Server option within Microsoft Windows Server 2003 enabled the company to centralise and standardise its technology. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 provided the team with new levels of remote access and, operating with Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 rather than the plethora of software versions that previously existed, has added a new and consistent look and feel to the company’s professional image. Today Canon New Zealand is operating smarter and its IT team is focused on aligning their activities with the needs of the business, including providing a more secure mobile access and powerful communication and collaboration tools, rather than the constant fire fighting of the past.
