Everyone in IT storage gets excited about the prospect of flash storage. It doesn’t matter whether or not it is part of a hybrid storage array (HSA) or an all-flash array (AFA) they get excited. That excitement has tilted the conventional wisdom (usually touted in trade publications) into the belief that all or at least most IT organizations have already implemented flash storage systems.
That perception, like most conventional wisdom, is incorrect. Even though flash storage is growing far more quickly than any other type of data storage (per IDC and Gartner), it is nowhere near the majority of total storage system sales. Since the data does not yet support the conventional wisdom, the question becomes why?
